When, where and how break dance appeared on the world stage
B-Boying, or populary called just break dance, is a dance style created in the late seventies in Bronx, New York. Term „break“ doesn’t come from the idea that you may break your bones while dancing, as it is generally thought.
This dance is called break dance because dancers are showing their moves during the part of the song called break.
Male dancers who practise break dance are called B-Boy (Break-Boy), and the female dancers are called B-Girl (Break-Girl). Break dance, with graffiti, DJ-ing and MC-ing, is one of the four elements of the hip-hop culture.
Because of his originality, break dance spread out worldwide quite fast, and in the eighties it became popular in the USA. Nowadays, it’s well-known all around the world, as well as in Croatia.
Osijek was positioned as quite important at the beginnings of break dance in this region, and the tradition continued through years with the Original Skillz Crew and Hip-Hop Osijek association. They organize many hip-hop events in our county, also are one of the promoters of the Break&Graffiti Jam, which takes part in Pannonian Challenge.
Since 2012, there have been four international break dance events within Pannonian, and every year the competition is moving to a higher level with many more famous names and moves. Last year, graffiti drawing is included into the Original Skillz Jam, and it goes ahead with building the scene within Pannonian.
